Netflix ha annunciato una nuova serie anime di Ghost in the Shell che arriverà nel 2020. La serie sarà diretta da Shinji Aramaki della Appleseed e da Kenji Kamiyama (Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex) e sarà realizzata da Production I.G e SOLA DIGITAL ARTS.

Kamiyama e Aramaki stanno curando anche la nuova serie anime su Ultraman, il celebre supereroe giapponese, sempre per Netflix.
Il manga originale di Ghost in the Shell, creato da Masamune Shirow e pubblicato a partire dal 1989, è stato adattato nel celebre film d’animazione del 1995, diretto da Mamoru Oshii, che si è occupato anche del sequel Ghost in the Shell – L’attacco dei cyborg (2004).
Lo scorso anno è uscita la trasposizione live-action hollywoodiana con Scarlett Johansson nel ruolo della protagonista. E’ stato un flop di critica e pubblico.
E’ stata inoltre realizzata la serie anime Ghost in the Shell: Stand alone complex.
